Azadeh Moaveni: Guest House for Young Widows: Among the women of ISIS

#AsiaLitFest hears a gripping account of thirteen women as they joined, endured and, in some cases, escaped life in the Islamic State.

Moaveni was in conversation with journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown

Pulitzer finalist Azadeh Moaveni joins the #AsiaLitFest with her new book Guest House for Young Widows: Among the women of ISIS, a gripping account of thirteen women as they joined, endured and, in some cases, escaped life in the Islamic States.

On the date of publication, Azadeh Moaveni joined us to discuss her new book, which gives a voice to the women who were part of the establishment of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s caliphate and essential to the rise of ISIS. Moaveni was in conversation with journalist Yasmin Alibhai Brown, and through the women’s stories explored the line between victim and collaborator to demonstrate that terrorism is a far more complex, political and relatable one than we generally admit.

This event included an audience Q&A and book signing.
