Shiv Malik: The Messenger

#AsiaLitFest hears the true story of an unlikely friendship between a repentant jihadist and an idealistic journalist.

We were joined by investigative journalist Shiv Malik, as he discussed his fascinating book The Messenger.

Malik brought us the thrilling real-life story of an unlikely friendship between a repentant jihadist and an idealist journalist, from their first meeting in the rough suburbs of Manchester, to a bombing in Pakistan, a dramatic arrest and a reporting career on the brink of ruin.

In conversation with Maeve McClenaghan, Malik explored how the age of terror has laid the groundwork for an era of fake news and demagogues.
